In 1901, a group of British railway employees in Caloocan founded the golf club during the American colonial period. It started out as a nine-hole golf course. In 1906, it merged with another club consisting of mostly Americans and grew to 157 members. There were no Filipino members.

16-year-old Filipino caddie Larry Montes won the Philippine Open in 1926. When he was not allowed to join the championship celebration, William Shaw created the Wack Wack Golf & Country Club. After the war in 1949, the club moved to Makati and has included 16 Filipino members.

In October 1959, the Manila Golf Club, Inc. and the Country Club Development, Inc. merged into the Manila Golf and Country Club we know today. According to the official website, “the present course measures 6,325 yards from the championship tees with a par of 71”.

The Manila Golf and Country Club is the most expensive and most exclusive club in the Philippines which also boasts top-quality and elegant facilities such as a gym, barbershop, badminton court, pro shop, business center, library, clinic, driving range, caddy house, and locker rooms.

The club’s elite membership still remains. However, non-members are also welcome to participate in tournaments.
